The kinda thing I don't do
I received a call from a man from the Gold Coast who told me he'd had an interesting life. Let's call him Ajax. Ajax had kept lions in a London apartment, invented fabulous things and served time in a US jail. He said he had a US publisher lined up for his book. Ajax told me he invented things. Right now, besides his memoir, he was working on a car engine that could run on water. We agreed to meet and yes, I could ‘fix up' - edit - something on the spot for him if that's what he wanted. The jail thing bothered me so I googled his name. Oh. ‘Ajax' was indeed famous. (Or infamous.) He came up with a Consumer Affairs red alert - a career criminal and a con-man. I called Ajax back and cancelled our appointment but later I couldn't help wondering what Ajax really had in mind. Some assistance with a blurb for a new scam maybe ... like a car that could run on water? I'm a person whose idea of a good time is silence and a blank page. So c'mon ... am I going to go in for the dubious? I don't think so.
